Mines defeats CU PDF Print E-mail

The Begin of the Mines Rugby season started with their usual scrimmage against CU. In the past this match has been marked by trying loses telling how far the team has yet to come. This year starts on a different note with the team pull off a close 15 to 12 win. In the opening of the match started with Mines going up 3 from a penalty kick. The rest of the half saw mines playing in it’s own half. The valiant defense could only hold for so long and CU put in a tri and conversion to go up 7.

The second half of the game was more of the same with Mines defending it’s own half again. The team again found it self in its own half defending for most of the half. CU managed to break the line once again but failed to make the conversion. Mines’ was able to score another tri. In the closing minutes of the game it looked like Mines would fall short. The team was inside CU’s 22 and appeared unable to score a tri to win. In the last minute things changed with a powerful by Cash and a brilliant play by Matt Oliver to score the game winning tri.

This year’s team shows much room for improvement with many new players and young talent. The game with CU was marked by a great defensive effort with the team play almost the entire game in their own half.
